MN-SEN: A disgusting attack ad by Norm Coleman

Yesterday, on my personal blog, I wrote about Norm Coleman's feigned outrage over a simple compare-and-contrast ad produced by Democratic senate candidate Al Franken. Coleman's campaign fumed: "Al Franken has launched the first television attack ad of 2008 and is going negative in a big way against Senator Coleman."

Well, check out this piece of filth:

From the script:

"The guys and I have been talking. We've read all this stuff about Al Franken: Not paying taxes. Going without insurance for his employees. Foul mouthed attacks on anyone he disagrees with. Tasteless, sexist jokes. Writing all that juicy porn. And we've decided we're running for US Senate. Why not? We're just as qualified as Al Franken, and we're better bowlers."
Wow. Norm sure turned around on this fast. Apparently, negative ads ARE okay. Anything to distract from the issues, right Norm?

I have two questions for Norm Coleman:

  1. Why is okay for you to run one of the nastiest ads I've seen in a long time, but you're up in arms about Franken comparing and contrasting your positions?
  2. When are you going to discuss your record? For instance, tomorrow I'll be running a piece all about how you voted against securing our trains, planes, and cargo ships... care to explain?

Considering how lampooned he got for the stupid first commercial for him to actually stick with the theme of Fargo-esque view of Minnesotans as midwest rednecks can only be good for Franken.  Contrary to popular belief we don't like being made fun of by our own Senator.  

I realize he is from NY and all and his wife lives in California but you think he would have learned something by now.

Coleman has never really represented Minnesota. That's pretty apparent from his voting record.

I think one of the best lines Franken has against Coleman is that he's never the fifty-first vote on anything.  Coleman pretends to be centrist and willing to rebuke his party, but he only does so as the 55th or 56th vote.  He'll never change the outcome of any vote.

Now I'd like to hear Al Franken deliver the line without laughing too hard at his own joke.

Actually my favorite Al Frankenism is "I am the only New York Jew in the race that is actually from Minnesota"

Maybe it will work (none / 0)

Minnesotans aren't stupid; as much flak as we get over Ventura and the like, we know what we're doing.  Most of us will recognize a nasty smear when we see it.

Anyway, Coleman, perhaps, will fall into the trap that Republicans all over the country have been falling into: traditional Republican methods.  Coleman was doing well when he tried the "independant voice for Minnesota" schtick (as inaccurate as that was), but this ad is pure Rove & Friends.


In this avalanche, the pebbles get to vote.

Putting aside for a moment the obvious smear job at work here,are we supposed to believe that this trio of pinheads are the type to be offended by low brow,sexist jokes?RRRRight.
The slight against Al's bowling prowess BTW is an absurd attack on his manhood,via the Obama bowling debacle.(which was more than rectified by the senator's awesome basketball display)
